Cat Lane
Cat Lane comprises two substantial detached family homes — Calanthe and Verge House — in the Oxfordshire village of Stadhampton.
The development provided an opportunity to combine contemporary family living with a highly energy-efficient construction system. Both houses were constructed using structural insulated panels, providing high levels of insulation and airtightness together with an efficient and predictable build programme.
Air source heat pumps, solar generation and underfloor heating were incorporated alongside carefully planned living spaces and a high internal specification.
Large areas of glazing and open-plan accommodation were utilised to create bright, flexible interiors, while the architectural treatment and material palette were designed to sit comfortably within the surrounding village setting.
Cat Lane became an important development for Barar Homes, demonstrating how modern methods of construction can be used to deliver substantial family homes without compromising architectural quality or everyday usability.
